More than 200 Tutsi and Banyamurenge men, were recently arrested and imprisoned accused of collaborating with the M23 rebels.
This happened after the raid carried out by the National intelligence Agency in DRC known as ANR(Agence National de Reseigment) in South and North Kivu , which resulted in the disappearance of 200 Tutsi and Banyamulenge Congolese. they were arrested and immediately taken to jail.
Some of those arrested ,were taken to the Makala prison in the capital Kinshasa while others were locked up in the cells of the ANR in South and North Kivu.
the families and friends of those who are imprisoned , announced to have managed finding out the information of those imprisoned in Kinshasa only but having no information of those imprisoned in South and North Kivu.
So far in the city of Goma, men and young men of the Tutsi and Banyamulenge tribe ,continue to be abused and imprisoned with the accusation of collaborating with the M23 rebels.
The families of the detainees in partnership with the organizations responsible for protecting the rights of Congolese Tutsi and Banyamulenge people in DRC, have requested the DRC Government to release their people, because there is no evidence that the Nation Intelligence Agency (ANR) shows of how these People work with the M23 rebels, based on which they are involved.
They added that their relatives, were arrested due to the fact that they belong to the Tutsi tribe .
As DRC’s Government continue to face the M23 rebels, being a Tutsi or Munyamulenge has become a crime in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
