At the EAC summit, Rwanda was represented by Dr. Edouard Ngirente

In the East African Community ‘s Heads of State summit, Paul kagame the Rwandan President was represented by the Prime Minister, Dr Ngirente Edouard.

This summit has a recurring theme of environmental protection, prevention of the effects of climate change and measures needed to ensure food security for the people of the East African Region.

This meeting was attended by various leaders including the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye and others. It is a preliminary meeting of the Heads of State which is scheduled to start this Friday.

The Prime Minister Dr Ngirente , has pointed out that climate change is a problem that the whole world is facing and that is why Rwanda has put in place measures to deal with it.

He added that Rwanda will continue to support measures aimed at reducing the severity of climate change and food security.

The President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, described Africa as a source of the environment, saying that it is time for the member countries of the East African Community to find the ability to invest in the preservation of the environment.

Other leaders of the EAC member states, including William Ruto of Kenya and Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi, pointed out that East African countries should be at the forefront in dealing with the challenges of climate change.

They all agreed that at the COP 28 climate change summit, they will all support the signing of an agreement aimed at accelerating the environment-friendly economy.

The subject of climate change, is the precursor to other topics that will be discussed at the EAC Summit, where the head of states are expected to discuss the security issue in the region as well as the Somalia’s acceptance as member of the East African community.
