The remarks made by the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi on the results of the presidential election of December 30, 2018, on the sidelines of the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations are causing a lot of ink to flow.
According to Félix Tshisekedi, there was never any fraudulent arrangement between him and his predecessor Joseph Kabila.
On September 19 in New York, Félix Tshisekedi declared that he would have been approached by two personalities whose names he cited, to assume the office of Prime Minister of his predecessor’s heir apparent. A proposal that, according to him, he would have rejected, because he was convinced of his victory in the elections for which he had the results.
For his part, the former President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Corneille Nangaa, confirms the existence of a political agreement between Félix Tshisekedi and predecessor Joseph Kabila.
In a statement made public this Saturday, September 23, Corneille Nangaa indicated that this agreement preceded the publication of the final results of the 2018 elections.
“I am one of the co-editors. This unalterable agreement was signed in front of witnesses, by President Tshisekedi and his predecessor,” he declared.
“The political agreement: “Agreement for the stability of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was certified and validated by three African Heads of State with their recognized status known by the two parties who congratulated the fact that it (Agreement), enabled the first bloodless transfer of power in the DRC.” He added.
Furthermore, this former President of the CENI, now in exile, indicates that on the basis of the said political agreement, institutions of the Republic were installed, case of the government (Order No. 19/056 of May 20, 2019 appointing the Prime Minister Ilunga Ilunkamba); the composition of the offices of the National Assembly and the Senate, etc.
Furthermore, Corneille Nangaa believes that 90 days before the irreversible expiration of his mandate, President Fëlix Tshisekedi made the intentional choice of a headlong flight, thus thinking of deceiving public opinion, by denying a political Agreement that he has indeed, in soul and conscience, concluded with his predecessor an agreement of which he knows full well that the main clause binds him.
“He can only draw all the consequences as the December 20 deadline approaches,” he declares.
“He cannot afford to falsify a major historical fact, anchored since January 2019 in the Congolese collective memory. Nor can he shirk his obligations. It is about his honor and his dignity,
respect for one’s word being the mark of great men. The political agreement does exist and it must be made public,” says Corneille Nangaa, former President of the CENI.
