The president of the political party ES (Ensemble pour la Republique), Moïse Katumbi Chapwe, is expected to submit his candidacy this Tuesday for the presidential election that will take place in December 2023.
The information was delivered this same Tuesday via Twitter by Frédéric Kitenge Kikumba, one of his relatives who is particularly responsible for managing TP Mazembe, a football club belonging to Katumbi.
Moïse Katumbi, will thus take action while he remains under the threat of the Congolese Law Known as “ La Congolite”which could exclude him from the race for the supreme office.
This law, aligned with the work schedule of the current parliamentary session, provides for reserving access to certain state functions (including the presidency of the Republic) only for Congolese born to two parents of Congolese origin. However, one of Katumbi’s parents is not Congolese.
This law, although included on the calendar of the parliamentary session last March, had not been debated. It is considered by the Katumbi camp, human rights organizations as well as the church as “discriminatory” and as a strategy to eliminate Moise Katumbi and his political party from the presidential election in advance.
