PDM/URUNGANOs’ rebels a group consisting of former FDLR, RUD URUNANA and CNRD/FLN, are said to be seen in Kahuzi Biega Park in South Kivu.
The management of the Kahuzi Biega National Park, says that it is concerned by the fighters who have entered the forest appearing to be separatists from the CNRD/FLN, who have been in the forest for an unknown number of months.
On June 18, 2023, the Kahuzi-Biega National Park issued an alert warning that there are armed people still visible on its land and asking residents to be vigilant.
The latest inspection report of Kahuzi-Biega National Park, shows that there is a movement of armed people in Nkenje zone, Irambi-Katana district as well as Kakongola zone , Kagabi district in the territory of Kabare.
“So far, we have not been able to identify these Armed people , but what is clear is that their goal is to plunder the natural resources of this Park. They have set aside the laws of DR Congo. We appeal to all residents of Kahuzi-Biega National Park in particular natives, no interaction or assistance whatsoever with these armed people. The Management of Kahuzi-Biega National Park, once again reminds the public to report to the relevant authorities, whenever they find out about the activities of those these armed people.
It also condemns their activities on its land ,for reasons based on the security of the country and the people.
The management of the Park, has once again appealed the media, the public and all other concerned bodies ,to be vigilant and contribute to the preservation of the safety of this World Heritage Park.
One of the park guards who did not want to be named, told a Rwanda tribune reporter working in Bukavu, that last week, some park guards were ambushed by the rebels and held them for three hours then after released them.
This guard, says again that these rebels told the ambushed people, that they have no intention of harming them but that they want to return home( Rwanda).
The guard also confirmed that the fighters who claimed to be members of the PDM URUNGANO , came from different groups against the Rwandan government and that their priority was to return to their homeland which is Rwanda.
One of the FARDC soldiers working in Kalehe who did not like his name to be published, told the Rwanda tribune source in the Bushaku area, that about eight months ago in the forest of Kahuzi Biega, there were those Rwandan rebels who used to belong to different rebel groups against the government of Rwanda.
the Major-level soldier said that they were led by a high-ranking soldier with the rank of Colonel who had recently left the FDLR.
