Rwandan envoy To Mozambique, Claude Nikobisanzwe has eulogized the deceased leader of the Rwandan Diaspora in Mozambique, Louis Baziga, stressing he was a very important person to his country.
Amb. Nikobisanzwe was exclusively speaking to rwandatribune.com last week after Baziga assassination.
Baziga, a businessman, who also doubled as a Pastor in the Pentecostal Church, was shot dead on August 26, 2019 in Mozambique and later on laid to rest in his native country, on Monday, September 2nd .
Nikobisanzwe disclosed that Baziga had confided in him with information that Rwandan dissidents who intended to destabilise the country were trailing him.
“They attempted, on multiple occasions, to convince him to leave his position as the head of the Rwandan Diaspora in [Mozambique] so that he joins them but he refused,” he said.
Nikobisanzwe added that Baziga choosing to back government programmes and refuse to join negative groups cost him his life.
“We can categorically say Baziga was killed for refusing to join these negative groups which are mostly composed of people who fled the country in 1994 and others who are part of the community. He rejected them and went on to normalize his citizenship,” he said
The envoy went on to say that the passing of Baziga is a great loss to the entire country.
“I knew Baziga from way back. He was a great friend. I knew him before I even became an Ambassador. He was a diligent man who selflessly served the country and did good through his life. He helped Rwandans,” he noted
Reports circulated in local websites last week implicate six individuals in the cold-blooded murder of Baziga, who was shot dead by assailants who blocked his car before spraying it with bullets in Matola area of the Mozambican capital Maputo.
