The United States of America asked the Government of Kinshasa to stop working with the FDLR rebels, if it wants the country of Congo and other Congolese to be secured.
This was announced by Linda Thomas, the representative of the United States of America in the United Nations, when she was adressing to the World Peace and Security Council yesterday September 28, 2023.
Linda Thomas, announced these words, based on the DRC’s request to withdraw the MONUSCO troops from this country, due to the fact thaT this mission has not produced any results since it arrival in the eastern DRC .
“MONUSCO alone cannot restore peace and security in eastern DRC while the government of this country is still working d with armed groups” She said,
“That is why we ask the Congolese State Army FARDC to end its relationship with the FDLR rebel group” She added
The state of Congo, has often pointed out that the security problem in the eastern part of the DRC, is caused by Rwanda, whith allegations of supporting the M23 Rebel group.
On the other hand, Rwanda has not stopped pointing out that this problem stems from the DRC’s leadership, that failed to solve it through proper channels, instead choosing to work with armed groups including the FDLR, a rebel goup formed by those involved in Genocide against Tutsi in 1994 as Well as aiming to disrupt Rwandan’s security .
