UPDF forces patrol the city of Bunagana in turning back Congolese refugees

Congolese refuges have begun to return as Ugandan forces are still maintaining the city’s security.

After 3 days’crush of FARDC and M 23, the good Climate began returning to the city of Bunagana on the DR Congo side, according to the city’s mayor in an interview with Voice of America. Despite this, a resident of the city recently told the Voice of America that the UPDF forces had taken her man from his home and took him to Kisoro, accusing him of being an M23 fighter.

UPDF spokesman Brig Gen Felix Kuraigye told the BBC that there were no UPDF troops on Congolese soil, but that the M23 was the one that attacked the town of Bunagana on the Ugandan side so it was necessary for the UPDF to fight and kill seven M23 fighters, others were arrested. Gen. Kuraigye also said the detainees were detained in Uganda.

Controversially, What Gen Felix Kuraigye says is ridiculed by resident of Bunagana. A resident of Rwankuba sub-district in Jomba we named Shemusa for his safety reason told Rwandatribune that the UPDF forces are in Bunagana City, “They are in patrol in Ntamugenga, Tshanzu and Tshengerero”.

In an interview with M23 Spokesperson, Major Willy Ngoma said that since the fighting broke out in his hometown, their forces have been subdued by foreign military forces, including Ugandan troops and FDLR fighters.

Political and security analyst Mr Sematumba recently told the BBC that the M23 issue would not be solved by Guns’ war. Sematumba added that the Congolese government should not shadow this issues like it happened in 2013 but yet M23 is still growing and gaining power of attack royal Armies. “They should follow what signed agreements says in order to put an end on the M23 issue” Said Sematumba.
