On December 6, 2021, the United States announced that it had imposed economic sanctions on Uganda’s Chief of Intelligence (CMI) Maj Gen Abel Kandiho.
So far, the cold war has erupted between the two countries, UPDF spokesman Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso recently saying that Uganda was surprised by the decision taken by United States to Museveni favored High Military Official (Maj Gen Kandiho).
Maj Gen Kandiho told Daily Monitor on December 9th that the United States could be at a disadvantage as a result of the sanctions imposed on him, and that he himself was guilty of one of the worst offenses the United States could ever have.
“I am not bored by that so- called sanctions. I have no business with USA. I am still concentrating on my work (As UPDF Chief of Military Intelligence). Security threats in region need more concentration. I will not allow to be diverted. It (sanction) is political and I am not politician” Maj Gen Kandiho remarks .
Maj Gen Kandiho has been repeatedly accused of torturing and ordering to kill NUP protesters in support of Robert Kyagulanyi following January’s presidential poll protest .
Maj Gen. Abel Kandiho joined the NRA at the age of 17, his career is said to have been marked by outstanding achievements, as evidenced by the fact that during the year he enlisted in the army he was immediately promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, from the time he continued to rise, to the rank of he now holds the rank of Major General in the Ugandan Army.
Gen Abel Kandiho has been widely accused of endangering the security of Rwandans living in Uganda where his administration has imprisoned and tortured them accusing them of spying for Rwanda.
