The Burundian soldiers have asked the Congolese army and Wazalendo, to withdraw from the battle-field in the area of Mushaki-kagusa and Nturo, so that they could themselves face the M23 rebels.
The Burundian army made this decision on November 18, 2023 after announcing that the M23 rebels are determined to fight them.
This happened, after the heavy fighting between the M23 fighters and the Burundian forces in collaboratin with FARDC,Wazalendo and FDLR/FOCA in some areas of the Masisi teritory.
In these fightings, the M23 rebels managed to kill some of Burundian soldiers while other were captured on the battlefield, things that did not please the Government of Burundi.
On the other hand, the M23 rebels accuse the Burundian army of interfering in the congolese affairs and that they are closly working with the Wazalendo, FDLR and FARDC groups, in oppressing the Congolese who speak Kinyarwanda especialy those of the Tutsi tribe.
The M23 rebels , has recently declared that they will not tolerate this behavior of the Burundian army and that they are ready to face them at any cost.
These area of Mushaki, Kagusa and Nturo, are currently under the control of the EAC forces on a peacekeeping mission in eastern Congo, especially the Burundian forces.
