Col Aimedo, Maj Abubakal, Capt Selekeso and about 200 FARDC soldiers were killed by M23 in the fighting that took place on Kicwa hill located in Rutshuru Territory yesterday February 2, 2023.
Col Aimedo who was leading the battle in that area, was killed after his base was bombarded by M23 as he was leading the battle in the Kwicwa area.
He was killed along with his assistants including Maj Abubakar who was in charge of military operations in that battalion and Capt Seleseko the commander of Kiyambi company.
M23 fired this bomb in this base, after learning that it was where Col Aimedo and his assistants were leading the battle that ended up capturing this hill.
In this heavy fighting, M23 also killed about 200 other FARDC soldiers belonging to the special commando unit of the battalion known as “Anaconda” who fell on Kicwa hill when they were facing M23 yesterday.
On the side of FDLR/FOCA, about 20 members of the special group known as “CRAP” led by Lt. Noheri were also killed .
One of the FARDC soldiers who managed to survive, was heard on social media talking with many tears saying :
” Col Aimedo along with his assistants Maj Abubakar who was in charge of military operations and Capt Selekeso the head of the Kiyambi company were killed by M23 in the fighting that took place on yesterday between 12:00pm and 14:00pm. We lost so many soldiers now it’s just tears.
The capture of Kicwa Hill, gives the M23 Head control of the Sake-Kitshanga road.
Sor far,the M23 group continues to fight towards the Masisi Territory as well as focusing on capturing other strategic areas in the Rutshuru Territory where FARDC soldiers would die in large numbers, causing many other soldiers to flee from the fighting.
