One of the FARDC officer who defected to M23 , said that he made this decision after the FARDC killed his uncle.
He accused FARDC of committing crimes against humanity, and that it recently killed his uncle called Vete who lived in Kitshanga.
He said “They hit him on the head, tied him up, tortured him. Karayire, Jido and General Mugabo are the ones who would give orders for the ongoing killings against the Tutsis in Masisi and Rutshuru, so I saw it and said, “Let me leave the FARDC and join the M23 among my brothers”
This officer added that General Mugabo who is leading the battle in Masisi, came and told all the FARDC soldiers that they must kill all the Tutsis.
Another FARDC officer who recently defected to M23, revealed how he had been harassed for some time by colleagues who said that “I have the face of a Tutsi”
These soldiers confirmed that the FARDC is killing the people in collaboration with some rebel groups including the FDLR which is made up of some of the participants in the Genocide against Tutsis in Rwanda.
